It was... fun. Entertaining. But then I must say I went in with virtually no expectations other than wanting to see Shia and the Hat. Though the ending was BAD. Even for my miniscule expectations... If you've got a good telly, one of those movies better for watching on DVD I think...

Unless you want to hear Indy stealing Solo's line that bad... yes, 'I've got a bad feeling about this.'

I should probably do a bit of an update on actualy shite happening in my life since this isn't a movie-review blog... (Yes, I'm lambasting the Spidey movies. I know, I raved, but once the buzz of 'ohmygod,aspider-manmovie!!' had worn off and I cast a jaundiced eye back, I realise two things: web-slinging scenes aside, they're not that great- and Tobey McGuire is a very special kind of ugly and chinless.)

I was never a big fan of Iron Man. A guy who gets all his powers from a suit? How lame is that? What if disaster strikes and he's not wearing the suit?? (Yes, I would have made a great supporter in the pro-mutants movement...) And then the Civil War arc came along and he got Spidey to reveal his secret identity... Well.

But in this case I'm willing to cast aside my usual snobbery and dissociate the movie character from the comic one. Because really, how can you not like Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark? He plays the character so very well (and looks disturbingly like him), from the eccentric 'drive-everyone-from-your-board-to-PA' nuts to the sudden change realization of what exactly his weapons are used for today, it's all very much believable. There's also plenty of moments for giggles as he displays a very boyish learning curve with his Iron Man equipment. (I won't go in to the details but let's just say it involves a Road-runner-esque moment where his face is enthusiasticly introduced to the wall/ ceiling.)

The big finale though was a little dissapointing in that Stark's suit wasn't running at full-power. So rather than a real men-in-robot-armour throw-down, we got Stark getting smacked about until he outwitted the other guy. While such a victory might be more in keeping with the brains-over-brawn theme of the movie, I miss the eye-candy.

Right, last point in this far-too-long post: am I the only one who picked up the socio-political commentary about how the powers that be sits on their asses unless it behoves them to get involved? Yes, I'm talking about the bit where Iron Man flys in to Afghanistan to kick some terrorist butt after seeing it on the news. Interesting how the US government has firepower in the area but doesn't get involved until they get a bogey on the radar which really scares them in case the terrorists are air-borne. After what's been going down in Myanmar, the picture this depicts is... unsettling. While I suppose no government owes it to the rest of the world to play playground monitor and sacrifice their own people and resources to do it, such an expectation doesn't sit well with the moral posturing the USA's always thrown about. It doesn't go down so smoothe either with the surprisingly loud idealist in me who's been shouting 'why can't we all just get along?' for the last... oh, six years or so.

So anyway, here's to Iron Man, a kick-ass movie that's deeper than those turds in the review section of The Straits Times give it credit for.

Meandering #3

I think this is the 3rd of my 'meandering' posts... Not as good as the comic but not too terrible either. Food was good but I have the usual complaint that it was too noisy for proper conversation to be easily had. This is why I prefer gatherings at houses rather than restaurants. But then, so much more to clean up... :p Still, good, fun evening.

Afdhal saw me reading Capote and gave me a quick run-down of the movie. (I actually very much enjoy discussing this kind of thing with Afdhal because he's so well-informed. Unfortunately I have nowhere that kind of interest or retention he does and often talking to him leaves this vague, floundering kind of feeling. The kind I get when some of my true otaku friends get down with each other. Conversationally I mean. What were you thinking?) The gist of what he described was that Capote did not help the man he was in love with (a convict) and let him die because he was basically writing their relationship out as his next book and it needed a good ending.

This got me thinking: firstly, if Capote were a woman, would his romance still hold the same disquieting note as it does in the movie? What if being gay is what adds to the 'originality' of the thing so to speak? In which case 'originality' sounds an awful lot like just putting the next most risque thing out there. Whereupon the talent becomes the ability to gauge what that thing is. Too far ahead of the curve and it'll just be too much for sensibilities. Too little and it becomse mundane.

There was a secondly... what was my second point? Ugh, yet another brilliant example of what facebooking while you blog will do to your thought process...

I really like climbing on stuff. I don't know why...

And if other people can't get up on it? That simply adds to the pleasure.

I don't know why my psyche's built that way but it is. Oh well. I finally got off my ass, connected my 360 up and signed up with XBox Live. So yes, I'm now playing Halo online! Happiness. :)

Interestingly enough, people seem to be able to tell I'm a girl... And before you even do the whole 'duh, you're voice ain't manly' thing, there's a bajillion pre-pubesecent annoying, foul-mouthed, immature, stupid, noisy boys on XBox Live too. What is wrong with them?!?! Is there some kind of requirement that if you're a gamer under 14 you have to be utterly retarded??

Which is why I try not to let on I'm a girl... Hmmm...

'...like two assholes on their first date.'

Not been posting again so here's an uber quick update before I get to the main point of this post. Watched Eastern Promises with Caleb and Char (and lunched with Deb). Watched American Gangster with my grandmother (and found out she watched Eastern Promises too... zomg.) Finished Assassin's Creed (so dissapointing. I was hoping for more. yet, i'm not too surprised. never a good sign. And what is it with the final boss battle? last bit was very much like Fable the Lost Chapters.) Lunched with Steffi and went shopping. finished up my job with Mediacorp. Not necessarily in that order. Oh yeah, Priscilla (ugh, spelling) from SD2(i think) got my job. :) cute.

And with all that out of the way, I can move on to the main point of this post: bitching about Gears of War. Yes, I've finally gotten round to playing it and I'm being a complete wuss and playing on Casual. The Locust scare me, okay? And I'm playing alone all the time now since my bro's out of town. So I like that they go down easy.

Even so, it's hell of a lot more tactical than Halo... Seriously, even on casual, if you don't stick by the maxim of 'duck and cover', you're toast. Not like Halo's Easy at all... and the enemy units are soooo much smarter. they flank you, all the time. I mean the AI engine does make them do dumb shit occasionally but on the whole they're pretty smart, pretty co-ordinated and available in hordes. Plues the emergence holes are... interesting. I'm playing Act Two now which is where it's dark and you've gotta watch out for the Kryl (I think) and man, it's crazy, creepy and fun. And the weapons require a little more thinking too... (Think Hammer of Dawn)

Plus, you're actuall in charge of delta Squad which means you need to give orders. It does help since Dom's an over-zealous sumbitch and Baird's kinda a chicken shit. Cole... Cole's actually not been too bad so far. Except he doesn't seem to get the "duck and cover" bit so well...

Yeah, your squad's AI's are pretty dumb sometimes. Which is really what I want to bitch about because Dom keeps running out and getting his stupid ass shot off by guys I could have taken. then when i run out to heal him, I get shot. After this fifth time this happened, I let the idiot lie there and bleed. He heals automatically when you finish off that bunch of Locust. Except while he's bleeding out, you get his bitching over the radio and no cover fire. Interestingly enough though, he never tries these crazy charges to distract the enemy when you need him too. Say when you're facing a trioka... Baird may be a chicken shit but at least you have steady cover fire so when you fall back to recoup, you don't have to worry about some shit-ass ugly locust popping out of his hole to walk over to your hiding place and whack you.

Well, I think I've ranted enough. The conversation in Delta Squad's pretty funny though. this post title is a line from when the Squad first splits and Marcus takes Baird with him (usually you get Dom. Hence my angst.)

Things like this though make me worry about my sense of humour...

bleeeeh

So for the first time in my life, I find myself depressed to be NOT going back to school. Just the ambience, the people I usually see... I really miss all that. Red wanted to crash orientation with me but I decided not to be cause I have work and if you did it right the first time, one ACJC orientation's quite enought to live through, thank you very much. I swear I had mud I didn't know mud could get...

Maybe a bit of the other reason is that I didn't want to go and watch a whole bunch of people starting their ACJC experience for the first time. I envy them that. I had a great 2 years, made some really good friends and I wish it weren't over. But it is and I shall content myself with crashing Spectra meetings. :)

Anyhow, I'm trying to bury myself in my job a little (a job which I might not have by the end of the month... Damn you HR people who want a five-day week for 400$ a month. NOBODY would do the work you want for that.) and now... I'm even more depressed.

I've been looking for info on the Dragon Boaters who drowned in Cambodia in November and... it's very sobering poking around on the memorial blogs and whatnot. Actually screw that, it's bloody depressing. Still, I've got enough material now that I think I can call it a day and go assassinate someone in the Harbour of Damascus. Or wherever else it is I'm in Assassin's Creed right now.

This is a compltely depressing new-year post. I promised myself I wouldn't do such a thing having experienced first hand how spazzy it sounded.

And then it started happeing to me.

I got friggen bounced for an NC16 movie! WTF! ARGH, so full of HATE!

Yup, okay, I'm good. So since I didn't have ID on me, I went and watched Alvin and the Chipmunks. Which is a damn good movie. Or cute at least. God I love chipmunks.

But the show that lends this post its title is TMNT- which I finally got down to watching this afternnon. (that's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for you sad people who didn't have a childhood)
I just wanna say: I love Mikey.

Okay, that's not all I wanna say. For one thing, I'm really glad the movie was good- particularly the way the relationships between the turtles was portrayed. I especially liked the whole thing between Raphael and Leonardo- it's the big brother VS brother showdown you could always see brewing yet never really exploded that badly... Or did it? Damn I need to dig up my parents' old TMNT comics...

The funny thing is, I realise that I've actually been a TMNT fan longer than I've been a Spidey fan! There's this picture of me in nursery on my brithday with this HUGE TMNT cake in front of me. Think it was Leo on the cake...

Mikey's always been my favourite though. :) When my cousins and I used to play, I was always Mikey. Now though I see Mikey's... How do I put this... 'Not playing with a full pack'. And I wonder if my cousins were not perhaps trying to tell me something...

Class Party

We had a class party at Maurice's house last night. Brought my 360 (as compensation for not bringing food) and a frag-fest naturally followed. Ironically the guys in my class were more in to it than the guys at the Spectra party. Jing Wei in particular. For a guy who claims to think gaming is a waste of time, he's one sneaky *insert appropriate expletive here*. On the plus side I think I've converted Maurice to look inversion. Which leaves just Nat and Jing Wei as the only non-inverted freaks in my class now I think...

The girls tried playing too and I feel slightly guilty for not sticking with them to try and offer help but I just taught my eight and three-year old cousin how to play earlier this week. I don't think I've ever exhibited such cam-whore-ism before but it was still fun. And respect to Amoz for understanding that when your Dad drives all the way to Shangri-La hotel to pick you up at eleven at night, you do not just tell him to turn around, thank you very much, because you've decided to go for the post-prom party. Sheesh. Pictures will be up on my facebook account. :) Even managed to get a picture with Sam- one of the most camera-shy guys I know (As opposed to Jing Wei who's actually a bit of a girl when it comes to taking photos. Which is the polite way of saying he's a bit of a cam-whore). And the food while paletable was definitely dissapointing considering we paid 98 friggen bucks. Oh well.

The main reson I'm making this post though is about the Golden Compas movie coming out. No, I'm not going to watch it but not for some religious reason. It's because I've read the book and I just don't feel like coughing up money to watch some director's interpretation of the thing in film. That and I don't think Daniel Craig's that cute. No, what really gets me is the way the Christian church is (once again) responding to a movie/book with anit-Christ elements. Years ago when His Dark Materials was just a book, they did nothing, said nothing. Now that it's a movie, they're out condemning it in force as anti-Christ. Which acts as excellent publicity and makes even more people buy the book and watch the damn movie.
You'd think after what happened to with the Da Vinci Code (and to a certain degree, Brokeback mountain) they'd have learned. The only people who'd listen and not support this 'evil, evil' thing are the Christians who are least likely to be taken in by any such messages (Though if you're the kind of person who'll parrot these beliefs without actually having read the thing to formulate your own opinion, you might actually be gullible-read:stupid- enough to be taken in...) For everyone else... put it this way: if you were a start-up writer who didn't want to take the risk of engaing in a major advitising campaign to publicise your work, make sure one of your reviewers mentions it has anti-Chirst elements. After that, sit back and let the church do everything for you.

Okay, that's not technically true but I really don't understand why there's this huge fuss about the Golden Compas. Firstly, there's nothing particularly obvious in the way it's anti-Christ. So the angels are gay and god dies. Big whup. Nowhere in the book is anyone led to believe that this is anything other than purely fictional. And that Christians assume saying "oh, it's anti-Chirst" is going to make their non-Christian friends not watch the movie... well. The term I'd like to use here is "very special kind of stupid". Why should they care? Frankly I'm a Christian, I've read His Dark Materials (not for awhile though. If anyone could loan me a copy of The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, I'd be grateful), The Da Vinci Code and Brokeback Mountain and I have to say: so what? These authors are entitled their views and any thinking individual should be more than able to realise they're writing fiction. Why do Christians then insist on sullying themselves with denouncing these works and making themselves look- unfortunately- stupid?

Were that I knew.

Ironically, are all the dungeons and dragons type novels then not anti-christ too? I've been paddling about for... what, eight to ten years now? on various holidays but I've never done white water. (And I've only capsized once. Hah.) In all fairness though, it was hardly extreme. Still, fun and probably a good start for a first.

Finished Halo3 with my brother a few days back and then did the last chapter (from rally point alpha- yes, I am a lazy ass) on legendary just for the special ending.

SPOILER:(Not that anyone who reads this blog cares) It just shows the frieghter headed towards Onyx. I'm a bit dissapointed. And it makes me wonder if we'll ever see the Chief again. It was somehow less sad when I thought he'd just died... Funny. Maybe it's because Cortana looked so lonely. DT, when told of my plans to get a 360 after the A Levels offered to babysit it for me so I could buy it immediately after Halo 3 comes out, get my Halo 3 and Gears of War but still not be tempted to play with it. He claims he'll give it back after the A levels. What a proposition. I had really had to think for a minute there- on whether to just laugh my ass off or throw something at him. (I settled on the fromer; he is still a tracher after all.)

Honours night attire check passed and cleared! Oh my gawd court shoes are uncomfortable. I wanna go and work with Bungie. :)

Yes, I did get this idea from O'Donnel's quote in Time "...they become Halo fans and then they go on to work with Bungie". But I think the seeds of this realization came from that time when DT told me I should get a job with RvB. I don't what it is about Halo that makes me love it so but I do. Unfortunately since Bungie's based in the US, I don't think my family's gonna be too supporting of this career choice. I dunno, year?) and Bagley's qutting USM. Or rather quit. About 6 episodes ago.

For those who think I'm speaking geek (I meant to type that since this is clearly English and not in fact, Greek), USm is Ultimate Spider-Man and Bagley's the penciler for it, since day one. His collaboration with Bendis, the writer of USM, has lasted for 110 issues which Wikipedia assures me outstrips the previous 'long collab' record held by Stan Lee and Kirby on their Fantastic Four run. Y'know, back in the day. (Read: before most of us were born) In other words, Bagley's behind the distinctive look of the artwork of USM as we know it. (Though I do love the way Isanove inks. *squee*)

Anyhow, Bagley's been replaced by this chap called Stuart Immonen (Canadian. Hrm. There is doubtlessly a joke that needs to be said with this but I try to keep my racism non-existent. 'Cept for the Irish jokes. Those write themselves.) Sadly the only example of his work I own (as far as I can find) is thoe cover art for Ultimate X-Men in the Ultimates Annuals. I... can't imagine the entire of USM in that style. My mind just balks. (Though he does have pretty stuff up on his site.)

I'm not going to flip out until I've seen USM issue 111 or onwards and gotten a proper look at Immonen's work but one way or another, I'm really sad Bagley's left. I mean, burn out and all is completely understandable but damn, I liked his art.

Unfortunately I am now stone broke (I mean broke. There's 30 cents in my wallet) and between my 360 fund and the new Halo comic that just came out (Halo: Uprising), there's no telling when I'll next be able to afford a trip down to the comic store.

Some of the guys were wondering yesterday why we never get to see the Master Chief's face. It's deliberate; Bungie wants us to be able to maintian this illusion that we are the MC. Hence, no face. Kinda doesn't work that well though when his voice is deep, gravelly and obviously male and you're an 18 year old girl.

Decompression

Prelims are over so I went out with some class mates for lunch today. Wanted to watch the movie with the french rat (who's name I cannot spell and shall not embaress myself by trying to) with Grace but it doesn't start tomorrow and the sneaks all show at sucky times. Sam is a capsican fiend. Seriosuly, he ate everything I peeled off my hotdog. And while it was good, I prefer the ones from Central Park.

Just bought the rest of the Ultimate Spider-Man Clone Saga and it is THE BOMB. Finally, some closure to all the cryptic little cliffies sprinkled throughout the series. Looks like Doc Ock's really dead too- or as dead as Marvel villians ever get. Which isn't very... Anyhow, I'm glad Gwen's not dead (for good), that the Fantastic Four are on Spidey's side and that Nic Fury admitted Spidey's one helluva good guy. But he's still a tool. Oh yes, and that Kitty finally broke up with Peter. God, she was getting so whinely and insecure. No wonder Bobby dumped her. I mean, I'm a girl and I can't understand a high maintainence girfriend like that. Which they no doubt all stayed up late for to mug since the &%^*@! math paper ended so late. Am I ever so glad I dropped chem. Though both Red and I agree that math would have been a much better topic to drop. Gotta admit, only one subject scares the bejeezus outta me right now (I'd like to have used the expression 'scares me ballsless' but seeing as I'm not a guy, it makes no sense. I tell ya, gender should not hamper you expletive expulsion experience in any way.) is math. It's really the only subject where I don't seem to be making much headway no matter how much I throw at it and that annoys me. You'd think I'd be used to this by now- what with my learning curve and all- but it still sucks. It almost feels like Chinese did back in sec two and three. Though the difference being that this time I kinda brought it down on myself. Anyhoo, enough of this blathering. As always, I started off this post with some vague purpose in mind and it's loooooooong gone. Myabe I should just end this off and go upstairs to bash it out with my bio or stats. But that would be the responsible thing to do. And boring. Why does being good and responsible always have to be the not-fun option? Played Monopoly last night with my brother and younger cousin and lost- partly due to bad luck and partly thanks to some poor strategies employed near the start of the game. I was looking through our favourite list on ffnet and it's funny but true how much Red's and mine tastes in bad reading shows. Red claims to and clearly does like the long, epic saga while I like the nice, short little quirky quickies. Oh gawd that came out wrong. I meant one-shots! Wait, not coming out any better... I'm talking about fiction dammit, so why does it sound like sex!?!?! I may be incurably perved. Damn. Okay, this is usually a sign I need to sign off so Fenix out! It's deliberate!)

NDP

I, uh, got dragged to the NDP yesterday by my Dad and younger brother and I gotta admit I had my reservations. I don't do crowded, hype, heartlanders and government-started pretending to be a patriot by going for an over-advertised event. Besides, like most other kids, I've seen a parade before in P5 and come to the conclusion most of the fun's in being a moron with your friends. So yes, I did go for the "first parade on the world's largest floating platform!" for one reason and one reason only: the goodie bag. And family time of course but if you'd let me pick, I'd have gone with watching a DVD of TMNT (which I still have not seen).

We arrived amazingly late- about 18:10 (there was a sign on one of the gates which read (gantry opens at 1445) and got placed in the overspill seating, putting us about five rows from the front and within shouting distance of the VIP box- if anyone could hear you shouting over the clamour that is. Marching bit was fun (because we were so close and my dad brought binoculars) but without a doubt the hight point of the evening for me was the drive-past of all the uberly cool machinery. Yes, we were close enough to get sprayed by the civil defense chaps with the hose. Maybe there's something to that saying "ladies love armour plating". I know I do! (though Steffi would point out my status as female is under debate... T.T)Anyway after that the rest of the parade is kinda a haze of dances and stuff. Bad lip-syncing included. And the lady in the red dress singing opera? Put it this way; it's a good thing my shirt was already red or the blood streaming from my ears might have made a really bad stain.

I liked the 21 gun salute :) And my goodie bag is purple. Yes, I am hooked on Hana-Kimi (damn- and why the hell am I using so many asides in my posts of late?) but it's not gonna distract me from my studies. Nuh-uh. No siree. Have I mentioned the whole show's hilarious? Damn but I hope Cheng Jie doesn't read this or his "I told you so"s will be absolutely unbearable... Ah well, I am resigned...

Hisn Yinn and Jennifer are bullying meeeeeeeee! *wails* I didn't mean to bust that guy's ankle! He tripped! Honest! Besides, he started it.

Ever since I read that thing, I keep wanting to say "nookie" when I mean "noogie"...

Anyway, Fraiday's Spectra party was fun. :) Alas I could not tie anyone up with the birthday cake ribbon (not for want of trying I assure you) but that's okay coz the cake was fantabulously tasty. Yum. And we finalized the jacket design- yes, Spectra will have its own jacket, soon I hope. FTW's supposed the stand for "for 73H win!" but I gotta 'fess up the first thing that ran through my head was "f*** the wall?" My mind might need minor adjusting... Hmm... being lactose intolerant must suck. And on the off-chance Caleb reads this, drinking three gallons of milk and being sick after that doesn't prove anything about humans being lactose intolerant as a whole in any way. Drinking three gallons of anything would make anyone violently sick, intolerant or not. Though three gallons of something like orange juice would probably make you sick outta both ends... *waves away bad imagery*

Alright, even though I can't vote (and probably never will- which sucks because in a way voting's a rite of passage), I can't help but take an interest in Amreica's presedential elections- much like back in sec two when it was Bush VS Gore (leastways I think it was in sec two... Yet that doesn't sound right... Bush has been in for two terms hasn't he? Aw poop.) One thing that bothers me is how everyone's putting Obama down for his lack of experience compared to his other rivals in the political areana. But the thing is, looking at his replies, I like his answers. They speak of practicality and are devoid of the usual pussy-footing you see in American politics where people are so often obviously more concerned over looking good and winning elections that actually doing their job of steering the country in the direction of everyone's best interests. Unfortunately there's a chance that this lack of experience is going to stop him from being able to do what needs to be done too- or make him foul up somewhere along the line. Better the devil you know... (yeah, this bit wasn't anyway near as coherent as I would ave liked but CNN's reporting on cows now rather than US presedential elections so I'm a bit torn by way of attention. bite me.)

Weird to think of Wall Street Journal changing hands. I think I can understand why people would mind; when you have someone so obviously prolific around, it's hard to believe he'd keep his paws off the processes within any institute he commandeers... Which people within the institue wouldn't appreciate I'm sure.

Gearing up

I have a deep, dark secret now... one I actually can't tell and I may not forget like I do most of the deep, dark secrets I keep. (See, I'm a great person to confide in. Unless you bring it up, I'll quite happily forget you ever told me anything and so never risk blabbing it. Wait, no... that sounds bad, like I don't care! I do! I just have a memory that leaks like a seive! Wait...crap, now I just sound stupid.) But damn, of course I'm not going to say what it is here. This is just to remind myself what the secret is because the blackmail possibilities are too sweet to give up. Keyword: uh...uh... chips! That made no sense. Yanno, *peers around* I think I better just move on to the rest of my post before I dig this damn hole any deeper.

Staying back for Spectra tomorrow (they will have cake!) rather than going for the math lecture- though maybe I should go for the lecture... My Stats suck. Serves me right for sleeping through/ skipping/ playing hang-man/ mugging bio through the better part of the lecture series... Anyway, hopefully I shall have an amusing/ traumatising post to do make over the weekend on just how crazy tomorrow's 'meeting' is. Funny, once our membership went up, Spectra's been having an awful lot of parties... My favourite was still the one where Grace brought her XBox and we played Halo2.

Maybe next year I could go into training and try out for WCG? Hahaha, now that's a crazy-ass idea. I doubt I'm anywhere near good enough. Plus I have no experience whatsoever in playing anything other than slayer; if only my Dad could wrap his head around the other game variants and my brother wasn't so CTF-phobic...

Let's see... what else... I watched episode one of hana-kimi (I'd like to be hooked on the series but prelims beckon, so, no.), Grace is designing the class page, people are dissapearing from class to mug, we had to select class photos- and will pay dearly for them... yeah, I think that's about it. Steffi's been saying... cryptic things to me. Which I shall temporarily ignore. And hope that she doesn't know something I don't. Or maybe that she does. That made no sense whatsoever... Especially give the absolute lack of context.

Well (there's that 'well' again!), I'm starting to reach the level of incoherency that usually indicates I should round off my post or risk letting slip something inappropriate. Like how I never want to sit in a bath tub with pee in it ever again.

Awwwww craaaaaaaaaap.

Random

Random post because blogger ate my last one and I'm trying to see if I can make it show up again.

To entertain you today, Mei Studios brings you random ranting! (Don't you love alliteration? I know I do!)

Unfortunately I don't haveanything good to rant about that I haven't already ranted on before so I guess I'll just talk about something interesting.

*Whips out a pointer and a bunch of charts on those flippy paper on a stand thingies*

Here as you can clearly see is the Transformers movie which has been out long enough that I have no qualms whatsoever about spoilering it for you. I would like to bring your attention to the very last bit of the movie where Optimus Prime is narrating the closing sequence. Note that Sam and Mikaela are making out- on Bumblebee's hood. And that Optimus in robot form and IronHide in his pick-up from are standing/ parked a little way off, watching. Appearently the Autobots have a slight voyeuristic streak and Sam and Mikaela at exhibitionists at heart.

And that concludes our presentation for today. Go figure. -.-|||

Poor Cheng Jie (bankai!); Neeta's officially lumped him together with Grace and I now. We shall henceforth be known as "you three!". I swear the bad trinity jokes just write themselves...

Which means that in addition to the existing motion started by Neeta for Grace and I to get "divorced", we're not allowed to sit with Cheng Jie either. Ack, I keep planning to keep my head down during GP but it's hard to when it's one of the few classes I still have with Grace. Annoying.

Might or might not have gotten hooked on hanakimi today (blame Grace and her laptop) but my true love still lies with... uh... ah hell, there's enough fangirl love to go around. Except for Spidey. And then it's more like fanboy than fangirl because fangirling Spidey the way I do anime just seems... gross. I don't know why but some things are sacred.

Ugh, I hate having exams, haven't Halo'd for ages. I could really do with a good bout of Slayer to take the edge off. Speaking of which I've realized that I'm really looking forward to when this is all over and I can get my 360, play some Gears of War and have a social life again- maybe not necessarily in that order. I swear college life has turned me into a social butterfly- relatively. Which is kinda disturbing come to think of it...

Today's the first time this year that I was able to leave school early on Friday and not stay back for Spectra at all. Funnily enough I don't miss it too much- even if it does feel kinda wierd being so free suddenly. It's going to be really strange when the later issues of the webcomic start to go up and I realise they're totally foreign to me (in layout and art at least because I have read the script for the rest of this chapter) because I wasn't chasing people to do the pencils and ink them.

People at shool are starting to stress about the prelims. I can't decide if my not panicking here is good so I don't burn out or bad because I'm starting too late... I guess we'll find out next year. O.o

Parents' are outta town. I hope Mom remebers to buy me those socks I like. And not in pink!

I wanna play soccer and stop dancing.:[

Surprise!

Well, (I tend to start alot of my sentences with "well" when I blog/talk to myself in my head/monologue. It bothers me yet I cannot make it stop! It's like using bad pick=up lines...) been awhile since my last entry (a week-ish)and since then I have been sick, probably flunked a bio test, watched a certain individual from CWC drive my girl friend (and a bunch of my juniours) to distraction and glued Cheng Jie's Nikes to the ceiling of NL8.

Okay, I haven't actually done the last one but that doesn't mean I might not be planning it. Or not... Whoa, random.

Anyway... uh... Crap, i can't type out good entries when a third of my brian's embedded in a fic, a third watching TV and the last third squabbling with a headache... I think I wanted to say something about today's photo-taking...

Oh yeah. Our formal photo? May be a bit, well, f***ed. Yeah... Personally I blame whoever said "tell a joke so we all laugh" while we were posing. After that the bad jokes that followed that caused the entire front row of girls to dissolve in laughter with the camera clicking the whole while... Only to be expected. *sigh* At least we look like we're all having a really good time. And the informal shots were a whole lot of fun. Though Nat's hip-thrust-which-will-not-be-further-elaborated-on may have rendered on of those photos... inappropriate for use.

Juniours threw a farewell party for us today. Funfun! And we met a new guy who did Wenbin's "what's *****************" question. He wikied- amidst many screams of "oh GOD don't do it!!"- and went: ok. So?

!!!!!!!!!!!

Not okay, so not okay...

@.@

Alas there was no gaming console -unlike our last big party- though there was pizza and lots of it. Wenbin brought his unicycle and as usual, there were bad puns and jokes abound... Whatever the hell role it is I play exactly. I guess I was sorta webcomic IC and secratary-ish but really, Spectra was so cloes and tight-knit, we all did each other's work (read: Grace did alot and made everybody else do their work) and roles and duties eventually blurred.

But we've got a new exco structure now (which will be revealed tomorrow!), thanks largely to the new branches of webcomic and an actual functioning website.

I wanna emo about this because I feel like I should and on some level it's a bit sad to be stepping down but actually? It feels right. We've been carrying the Spectra torch for a year now, we've pulled it up from 'falling apart' to 'going somewhere'. Plus we've got good juniors to hand over to so it feels good. Besides, it's not like we can't crash every so often. :D

I'm beginning to think GP's not worth going to. I just watched RvB Episode 100, the last on good ol' blood gulch. OMFG. They cliff-hung it! I mean, not really but sorta. And after so much briiliant RvB-ness, I gotta say, the ending's kinda dissapointing. I'm not sure if it's because it was actually bad or because I was really hoping that this episode would wrap everything up and this left alot of unanswered questions. Is Tex really dead? Is Andy? Sheila? Tucker's kid? The alien? Omega? Lopez?!?

And why the hell doesn't Griff die? I mean, he got shot in the head and someone dropped a stalagtite on him! The last bit was cute though, the convo where everyone's talking on XBox live. Though it suggests that Donut isn't as gay as we've always made him out to be... bizzare.

Well, I suppose the good thing is there's enough questions that the next season is definetely going to have to link to this. Though it'll be interesting to see if they use Valhalla (shit, can't remember how to spell it.) from Halo three. And it'll hopefully be sufficient excuse that no nit-pickers amongst the fans will whine about the change in animation.

It's kinda funny; I was watching this documentary on video games on Discovery the other day and they interviewed Burnie about RvB as an example of machinima

Wow, just... wow. Though it makes me think, why is it these "rebel" and "by-passing the system" types of expression are considered successful only when they get accepted by the system? You get the same thing for webcomics and to a certain extent blogs. The pinnacle of success for these mediums is when they're embraced by the very institutes they circumvented. (Not that RvB's team hates Bungie or anything like that- Bungie's too cool for that. I mean, come on, Halo) But I'm just sayin' that's how it feels. I might be reading too much into this but hey, that's the beauty of blogging: legitimate-being-a-total-moron. Viva la revolution!

Class CIP today. We stuffed Maurice and Sam into a neoprint booth. I hope we haven't traumatised them too badly... Ironically, it was Sam's suggestion... If I can get one of the better pics scanned, I'll pop it up. :)

Ugh, Heores season finale next Wednesday. Call me old-fashioned but I'd rather wait a week for each episode than get the entire season on downlaod at one-shot. The suspense means alot in the exprience, yanno? I mean, that's why we watch movies in the theatre rather than wait for DVD. And that's why a hand-qritten letter means so much more than an e-mail, a phone-call more than an SMS, a hand-made card more than a store-bought one and a home-cooked meal much more than a the finest restaurant food. Because even if we are slaves to convenience, there still remains the vestiges of some old-world sentimentality and appreciation for that personal touch.

Did a quizz I found on Red's blog:

Mingle2.com - Free Online Dating

39% Geek

Three strikes, you're out

Two days posting in a row- something I've not done since the 'new blog' rush wore off. Personally I blame the sudden system of shock of having a life and human interaction with peers again after having spent a month like a hermit.

The main reason I wanted to post was to recount a nice little episode during GP today.

So the teacher finally returns us the GP resource books she's been spot marking for the last three months- and only to about four of us since she hasn't actually marked the rest. Turning to a bunch of us, she asks us to explain how we selected our articles because she thought we a did a good job.

Teacher: Shi Mei, could you explain to the class how you selected your GP articles?

Me: (looking totally blank and clueless because I approach most GP assignments the way one does furniture in the dark) Uh, I have no idea. I just grab what looks good. (Behind me Grace is nodding furiously in agreement)

Teacher: (with one of those internal sighs) Alright, Tian Zhi, how did you choose your articles?(Now if there's one guy in class who's got a study plan, it's Tian Zhi and his resource book is pretty awe-inspiring)

Tian Zhi: I just choose what looks good.

Strike two. The teacher than turns to the last chap who can usually be counted on for a sensible reply in GP pleads.

Teacher: Afdhal, how do you choose your articles?

Afdhal: Oprah and movies!

pwned. I knew I loved this class for a reason. Incidentally, this may be why our class so utterly flops at GP discussions of late.

The hard way

So, in the last week, my boring non-existent life has suddenly picked up and I've come away, I'd like to think, knowing a little more if not actually being much wiser.

First off, I've learnt (much to my horror) that about that thing, that time in China (the other one, not the thing we shall never speak of), Steffi was right. I was drunk. not badly so but definitely affected. Note to self: no matter how thirsty I am, never take a swig of her alcoholic drink.

Lesson two was the FBTs don't give you wedgies. It's always annoyed me that the school PE shorts were so bloody uncomfortable. I can understand wanting to make all the girls look like shapeless sacks in their PE attire (ok, actually, I can't) but cutting the girls shorts exactly the same way as the guys'?!?! That's not a decency issue; it's a basic 'where the f*** were you when they were handing out brains' issue. Clue: girls have wider hips than guys and less baggage in front. Therefore, shorts need to be cut differently between genders. Thank haevens the PE department listened to all the whinging the girls have been doing and got new shorts. I'm not a fan of FBTs myself but I can appreciate no wedegie.

Item three's just disturbing. SAM'S STALKING ME.

Okay, he's not. He's just talking to a classmate I used to walk home and talk alot with and it's really creepy since he now has access to wierd stories like the time I dropped my Spidey bottle in the mud and cleaned it off on my skirt. I assure you such a course of action made perfect sense then. And still does...

Ebil

You Are 38% Evil

A bit of evil lurks in your heart, but you hide it well.
In some ways, you are the most dangerous kind of evil.

How Evil Are You?

So, I'm not really evil but what little evilness I have is insidious.Hmmm...

How do I get eviler? Kill villagers? This is so Fable the Lost Chapters... And every monster I kill makes me less evil... Which is a pain in the ass when you're trying to get horny (evil character grows horns. get your mind out of the gutter.) And yes, I have played the game twice so why am I even blogging about it? Maybe because I wanna talk about Halo. Or more specifically, RvB.

OMFG. RvB. Watched episode 99 last night (second last! WHY?!?!) and everything's tying together nicely. It's just kinad wierd though 'cause Tucker's acting smart. Tucker? Smart?!? (I swear this incredulity has nothing to do with the fact he's black. He's just such a lazy bastard usually.) And Church hit something with the sniper rifle? No f-ing way man. Miracles do happen!

Though I gotta admit, the thing with Tex at the end is kinda confusing. And it looks like it's tying in the main Halo story line.

Speaking of the main Halo story line, Caboose is the MC!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Okay, this is bizzare. I should run away.

Oh, no class party (sad) and I couldn't go anyway if there were. Quick back story: we've been having a wee bit of a termite infestation that was found by yours truely in the book shelves in the corridor outside my parents room some two months ago. We removed the shelves, threw out a whole bunch of books *cries*, sprayed the whole lot with termite powder and found out more about the internal structure of a termite nest than I think should be healthy. And no, we did not find the queen. Yes, my dad did get bitten by some "soldier" drone or something and yes, we did have to rip out bits of the floor boards and skirting. Also, termite colonies make strange scratching noises and a weird pattering sound like rainfall on a tin roof (only much softer).-

So after we found a bunch in my brother's ed frame (and the bathroom door), we thought we were safe. The tyranny of the termites was over! (hey, that was aliterative!) Only... it isn't.

My mom found a whole bunch behind the TV! O.o So the second half of my morning was spent cleaning up termites and helping chisel up bits of the floor. Fun. :)

Oh my god I need to get a life.

I never thought I'd say this, but I CAN'T WAIT FOR SCHOOL TO START. Clearly four weeks of undiluted time in my younger brother's company is starting to get to me.

Oh, and the termite guy's coming some time next week.

Bankai

Yay, random post!

Okay, not a random post. It's the way he runs. And talks. And makes absolutely no sense even while being so very sensible.

Uh, right.

The funny thing about pirates 3 is that I think i actually enjoyed it more than Spidey 3- treason and heresey (misspelt that) I know, but true. Both suffer from similar complaints of having simply gotten too big for their boots. Too many characters, no real, believeable plot, bad pacing (draggy at bits- though found pirates sufficiently entertaining) and overly-reliant on brilliant CGI to bring in the crowds. Yet pirates was better. Why? Really better? Or somply better because we expected less from it?

My theory: we expect more from Spidey because it's Spidey. There's a gold-mine of plot to bring to play, enourmously three-dimensional giants of characters and consultation with Stan th' man in movie production. And Riami calls himself a fan.

On the other hand, pirates is a totally new thing. A whole 'nother ball game (thanks Red for waking my brain up to the smell of idioms in the morning). New series, different purpose, different history (it was a Disney ride before the movie for pete's sakes; what were you expecting for brain thrust?) and it saves itself with its humour and characters.

As much as it pains me to say this, Jack Sparrow's a much better character than the movie Spider-Man.

Why the hell doesn't the silver screen Spidey blow our ears off with his back-chat?!?

Right... officially done being rabid for now a will go do... stuff.

Up to speed

Just to write it down somehwere because my memory actually does suck really bad:

Had spectra lunch on tuesday, was a blast, note to self, never eat that damn much burger ever again. Also, don't dis DT's sausage lunch ever no matter how phallic it looks.

I have little more than 12 hours (most of which will be spent asleep)to decide what comic I will buy for my birthday. Only drinking will shoot my liver in excess, really doesn't mix well with driving and I figure there are cheaper ways to kill myself than by smoking. More fun too most likely. Acer... oh. Hell, they're dual-core which means no more lag! Friggen yes! And I've sketched out the issue of the Spectra webcomic I was supposed to and the June hols are nearly upon us! Life looks good. :)

Except I deleted something like 70 hours of my Final Fantsy Tactics Advance last night by accident. Damn. And though they're faster, the school coms do still have the same old internet connection which won't let me get on DeviantArt because it contains "culture and heritage" (I kid you not) but gives me full access to blogger and is kinda slow (the way I'm kinda crazy). Still, fangirling over the new coms with Red was strangely theraputic. They have pretty blue flashy lights. :D

Wish I could get a 360 for my birthday... Yes 360, thou of the sexy clean lines, pure virginial white finish and totally kick-ass wireless controllers. Would that we might be together, playing countless hours of Halo together (because one day I hope to be able to kick Legendary) and waiting in eagre anticipation for a true god amongst mortals, Halo 3, to grace us with its presence.

I am fully aware I am completly insane. With me as grounded as I am though, I'm gonna count myself lucky to get Minutes to Midnight and watch PoTC The World's End for my birthday.

Everytime someone mentions my birthday, my brothe goes (in this incredulous voice): "18? Don't know how badly I did since we don't have the papers back yet but the teacher told me I flunked. Which is why I am now colosally pissed. Hopefully a little running with Steffi later will sort some of that out.

I don't even want to talk about the bio test today because I'll probably do hell of alot worse for it than I thought I did. Just like chem, the last bio test, the last econs test, the last math test... I don't know whether it's because I'm screwing myself over in karma by thinking They went well or if I'm really such a lousy judge of my abilities. I KNOW what the logical answer is (I always do. Sometimes I hate being bloody rational and logical) but I like to think it's the karma...

Now I feel bad because my blog is slowly being overwhelmed by the tidal wave of angst I swore I would never let engulf it. Shoo.

I should be studying for GP but I've only got one passage left and I read the whole thing in effectively a day (twenty-four hours or so) so I'm feeling virtuous and lazy. Always a brilliant combination.

DIGITAL LIFE TODAY!!! OMG! HALO 3 BETA!!!

Only for XBox live gold members; f***ing prudes. I'm losing it for Halo though... My brother's beating me!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My life is over! Damn evil little brother; I swear he's been practicing. I need to spend more time blasting aliens. I love how they bleed blue. And when they die, the Elites fire off a coupla wold shots that go in a pretty arc. I've never actually seen the Grunts explode though they're supposed to be carrying methane tanks to breathe... Pity. Maybe the graphics and physics engine in Halo 3 will ammend that.

I have $350 for my XBox 360 fund. Anyone wanna contribute? If I can get it before Halo 3 comes out, I can warm up for the 1337ness by wearing out my thumbs on Gears of War. A wonderful opportunity to fall in love with the chainsaw I'm sure...

Funnily enough, the main character's MarcusFenix... I'm not exactly a stranger to fancy restaurants but I barely recognized anything on the menue. While I love the way the whole thing sounds (it's so fun playing in a group! I like how if I get lost, I can sit there and be quiet and nobody notices. :p Don't play well under pressure...) The only thing is... Roachy and I are the oldest kids there and the aerage age is... twelve?

Dear God, I hope I was never such an obnoxious little turd when I was that age. I'm pretty sure I wasn't but just in case I was, I'm eternally greatful my parents never inflicted me on a guitar ensemble class. Hopefully I can switch to the Sunday class... though it does mean I won't get my usual teacher. Blargh.

Did my LAST 2.4 TODAY. 15:03 minutes. It's not brilliant, it's a C and I have a vague suspicion Cheng Jie can't understand why the hell I'm not aiming for a better timing... What can I say? Running bores me; though I really should get back to skating. Before my wheels decompose from lack of use- again. Just the five-items left now and I think I'll gun for a. "A" for all of them. Mine is to hide in a basement with lots of tinned food and go "glarghhhblarggghygragh" any time zombies come by. Probably misspelt that too but it was an interesting thing we watched for GP.

Zombie

I FINISHED MY INK SUBMISSION.

Now I just hope Estelle remembers to help me hand it in. Been a freakin' zombie at school all day on account on having stayed up till four this morning to finish the piece. And I found out after all that trouble, I might get disqualified because although it's monochrome, it's not in black and white. I'm tempted to say heck cares since last year's winning entries were in full colour but this year's INK people seem to have their act together better than last year's. It makes me think about how in clubs and societies (as in all organizations?) every new generation/cohort can improve on the last's. But at the same time, it's very easy to get complacent and back-slide. I mean, TC used to totally pwnzorz Spectra in membership and rep but now... it's plenty different. I'm not saying they're worse than us but they've lost ground and we've gained alot. It's the prospect of the CCA hand-over that's making me think this. Spectra's come so far in the last year (less than a year actually since someone handed over the reigns to us late.) and I really want to see it go further. At the same time I don't want us to sacrifice the sense of fun that prevails throughout the CCA. I think I can honestly say that everyone in Spectra enjoys our weekly meetings. Some more than others, true, but nobody's there because they just need a CCA and don't want to be there. (Well, maybe one or two of the J2s are but we're on the way out...)

Jano wrote a damn funny thing. If I can find it, I'll post it up. It's... it's Spectra fanfiction. I'm very disturbed...

I like Friday PE. Either we play games or we do... stuff like today. So the drama.

Neeta reminds me alot of my sec four English Literature teacher... 'nuff said.

When's mothers' day? I have one mother and two grandmothers to prep for.

Argh, no Spectra next week for me; I have to go for my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary dinner.

Statistically Gay

Cyanide & Happiness @ Explosm.net

Well, alot's happened since the last post. Spider-Man 3 was fab. Bit draggy at some bits but the fight scenes were fab. I only wish they could have fleshed out Venom more. The whole movie was just too packed, so it got draggy and the character development wasd patchy in spots. but I shan't say any more so I don't spoiler it for all you people who DIDN'T WATCH IT ON THE FIRST DAY. Hah.

Favourite quote: I like being bad. It makes me happy.

DT says we have to step down from Spectra exco somewhere in term three. T.T I knew it was coming but I still can't imagine JC life without Spectra! It's been an inegral part of my ACsperience- even when you-know-who was in power. (No, it's not Voldemort.)

We did a quiz in GP class today to see how masculine or feminine we are. I had the least feminie results out of all the girls. Even Red got higher than me... According to the survey results, I'm statistically obligated to be gay. Freak-eh. I'm more "manly" than Cheng Jie! I don't think that's actually something to be proud of though...

Hmm, lots of emotional stuff on Monday but I don't think I'm gonna talk about that. (Other people emo-ing, not me. I'm nice and steady despite my lack, sorry, absence of sanity.)

I have a chem test and a math test next week. But nowhere as near as interesting as Tuesday's gonna be. :)

From Spider-Man at noon to math tuition at four then rounding up the day with dinner with the extended family at seven thirty. I have just one thing to say:

SPIDER-MAN 3 ADVANCE TICKETS!

My mom called me a dorky fan. I am so insulted. I can't help it that Spidey's sooooo uber cool. and before anybody says it, I'm NOT a Tobey fan! I hate him. hatehimhatehimhatehim. with his weak chin and pasty face. UGH, he's awful for Spidey. He was alright for the first movie coz' Spidey didn't start out uber buff and cool but the beauty of the series has in part been Peter Parker's metamorphesis into a pretty cool guy even if he started out a dorky nerd. Tobey has unfortunately stayed dorky.

Too, why is Eddie Brock not mega-buff? The whole point is the Symbiote enhances your existing strength. And Venom was stronger than Spidey in part because Brock was always a muscle man. I know he wasn't in ultimate Spidey and that's more I wanna gripe about. Honestly, I miss the gritiness of the old, traditional Spider-Man. Things like Maximum Carnage, Kraven's Last Hunt, the Goblin saga, the Clone saga, House of M... It feels like Ultimate's pussy-footing around it. But then again... ultimate Spidey is for a different time, a different generation, a different world.

The way I see it, it seems that the big favourite for the old school Spidey was psycho paths and the end of the world. Now... the psychopaths, the possible end of civilization as we know it, that's all real. 9/11 changed alot of things. So now the new generation of Spidey (and really, most of Marvel) (I'm talking about the ultimate series) is focusiong more on the "what happened before the world blew up". Sorta the changes that led to the storm I guess.

Or the ultimate folks may have just decided they want a more kid-friendly thing. Maybe Ultimate Spidey will get darker as it gets older and "grows up" as a series but right now, it's alot of teen-angst. But it still rules.

Though I really, really miss old-school Carnage and Venom.

Wow, and I thought I couldn't do long posts...

Oh yeah, found Cheng Jie and Sohpia's blogs. :) From Stoofy of course.

Sanity

Friday again and I gotta admit, Spectra really helps to keep me sane. After ten years of St. Nicholas sports days, what happened yesterday was a sad and pathetic excuse for any kind of sports meet. As per normal, it didn't end at the projected time either. maybe if we didn't insist on having our sports meet at hat time of year where it rains every afternoon...

Still, it was pretty fun. Blue and I meandered off ti watch the last of the tennis match and after that we managed to find a couple of classmates.

And then we made a deck of cards.
